Handley fundraising gets a major boost
WINCHESTER — Handley High School's massive renovation project got a big boost from an alum celebrating her 30th high school reunion Saturday. Beth Comstock, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for GE — and a member of the Handley class of 1978 — donated $100,000 to the capital campaign, said former state Sen. H. Russell Potts Jr.

Fall gala to benefit John Handley High
WINCHESTER — Winchester Public Schools will host a fall gala benefit on Saturday to benefit the John Handley High School capital campaign. The black tie optional gala will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley at Glen Burnie, 901 Amherst St. Tickets are $75 per person or $125 per couple, according to the school division's Web site, with $50 per couple tax deductible.

Club to assist with Handley renovation
WINCHESTER - Winchester Public Schools officials announced Wednesday that the Garden Club of Virginia has agreed to adopt the John Handley High School expansion and renovation project as one of its official restoration projects. The garden club hopes to begin restoring gardens and landscapes at the high school by the fall, said Will Rieley, a landscape architect for the club. Cost estimates for the group's work on the project have not yet been determined.
