Officials touch on truck ban pitfalls
WINCHESTER — Ban trucks from one road and drivers find a way around — often adding traffic to other streets — state and Frederick County officials warned Monday. During a meeting of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors' transportation committee, representatives of Warren County sought input on a potential restriction of tractor-trailers and trucks on Reliance Road (Va. 627).

Ramp work at Exit 315 southbound also in Frederick County at Va. 7. Barriers will be located in this work zone. Interstate 66: Full operation of a new traffic signal beginning Monday at the westbound I-66 exit ramp at Va. 79. Also, lane and shoulder closings on bridges over the North Fork of the Shenandoah River for repairs at mile marker 7 eastbound and westbound Monday to Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Bridge repair east of U.S. 340-522. Westbound lane and shoulder closings Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastbound lane and shoulder closings Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Construction progressing

FRONT ROYAL — Construction crews are making visible progress on the second half of the bridge that carries U.S. 340-522 across the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. Workers have started assembling steel beams on the west side of the bridge.

Drivers on U.S. 50 can expect detours

WINCHESTER — Area drivers frustrated by disrupted traffic patterns from recent roadwork in the area can expect more detours and delays over the weekend — this time along U.S. 50. Virginia Department of Transportation officials said a portion of U.S. 50 in the Hayfield area of Frederick County, about 4.5 miles west of Winchester, will be shut down for three days, beginning Friday, as Winchester and Western Railroad crews complete railroad crossing improvements, VDOT spokeswoman Sandy Myers said.

U.S. 17 crossing to have work done
Motorists who use U.S. 17 to travel between U.S. 50 and Interstate 66 may need to find an alternate route on Wednesday, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. Because of Norfolk Southern work at the railroad crossing at Delaplane, through traffic will be unable to travel between there and Marshall starting at 8 a.m. The work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m., according to a VDOT press release. Local traffic may continue to use the road north and south of the railroad crossing, the release states. Recommended alternate routes for through traffic are I-66 and U.S. 340-522.

Department of Transportation to hold public hearing on replacing structure

STRASBURG — The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a design public hearing Tuesday on potential improvements to Deer Rapids Road, including the replacement of a one-lane, low-water bridge. The potential Va. 744 project includes replacing the existing span over the North Fork of the Shenandoah River with a two-lane bridge and improving its roadway approaches, VDOT Edinburg Residency Administrator Jerry Copp said Wednesday. Tuesday's public hearing will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. at Strasburg's town hall at 174 E. King St.

Utility work to start along Cork Street
WINCHESTER — City officials will be doing utility work on Cork Street between Loudoun and Braddock streets during the next three weeks, officials said Thursday. According to a press release, construction work will consist of replacing water and sewer service lines and fire hydrants. Traffic will be limited to one lane during the day, the release states. Both lanes of traffic will be open at night.
