U.S. 17 crossing to have work done

Motorists who use U.S. 17 to travel between U.S. 50 and Interstate 66 may need to find an alternate route on Wednesday, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Because of Norfolk Southern work at the railroad crossing at Delaplane, through traffic will be unable to travel between there and Marshall starting at 8 a.m. The work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m., according to a VDOT press release.

Local traffic may continue to use the road north and south of the railroad crossing, the release states. Recommended alternate routes for through traffic are I-66 and U.S. 340-522.

Motorists are advised to avoid traveling if possible, the release states, or allow extra time for the trip.
