BusinessThursday, August 21, 2008 American Woodmark's profit tumblesWINCHESTER Cabinet maker American Woodmark said Wednesday its first-quarter earnings tumbled more than 90 percent as revenue continued to slide in a weak market for both home sales and remodeling. The company reported earnings of $156,000, or 1 cent per share, for the three-month period ended July 31, compared with net income of $5.1 million, or 34 cents a share, in the prior year's first quarter. Net sales declined 16 percent during the period to $139.2 million. It was the second consecutive quarter of slim earnings at American Woodmark, which operates 14 manufacturing facilities and nine service centers across the country. The company turned a profit of $36,000 for the quarter ended April 30. The company said inefficiencies in labor, overhead and freight costs from lower sales cut into its bottom line, as did the impact of rising fuel prices upon freight and materials costs. The company reduced its operating expenses by 18 percent during the first quarter, primarily through spending cuts and "lower headcount." Shares of American Woodmark (Nasdaq: AMWD) closed at $23.90 on Wednesday, up 90 cents. Daily Staff Report |

Mr. Jackson was well respected during his tenure at Saint Francis Health System. The positive developments that took place during his tenure at Saint Francis are numerous. It's hard for me to understand why Valley Health accepted Jackson's resignation.
Great story! I recently bought a red 50cc scooter here in Chicago from a company called Bell-Mount Trading. I was surprised to find that even though it was rated at 35mph, mine goes 45mph without any trouble. I've even asked about their mod kits which will get this scooter to go up to 60mph. Now that scooters are so popular, I'm not embarrased to ride one. Especially since they look so cool now.
I've lived here since the mid-70's. This is one of the GOOFIEST things I have ever seen done. It's is God-awful ugly as you drive up the road. And while it shouldn't, you just know that some people are going to have a problem navigating through there. I keep looking for the black tire marks on the "islands". This even ranks higher than the brainchild of the new traffic pattern at 6th. & Happy Creek Rd.
